How often should I be on?
To make the most out of Twitter, it helps to make it a part of your daily routine so that it becomes a part of your online behaviour.
Set aside a specific time (or times) that you will make a point of checking in with what’s happening on Twitter. When you do, I suggest you try to do three things to help you get engaged with others.
Take 10 - 15 minutes to:
- Post at least one tweet each day.
- Click on at least one link. A richness of Twitter is how it acts as a headline news service for what is interesting to you. Following the links connects you to information you likely would never otherwise access.
- Retweet something that someone else has shared that your followers may find interesting. You might include your own comments on the tweet. I recommend doing so before the original tweet.
- Reply to what someone else posted.
Eventually, you will want to check out Twitter more than once a day and you’ll naturally spread these activities out.
If you want to use Twitter to develop new relationships and help enhance them, you need to be on it regularly. People who get the most out of Twitter are engaged and on it frequently. If you use it more casually or infrequently, you can still access some of the great information but you’re less likely to make the new connections and as far as I’m concerned making new connections is one of the most important reasons to be on Twitter.
