Updated seminar info & Ignite Waterloo
Hey there! Just a quick update to make sure readers of this post know about a couple things.
New dates & prices for our seminars
There’s been good interest in our seminars but registered participants were lower than expected. I decided to give people more time to plan to attend and make whatever arrangements they need to make.
The Communications Planning seminar is now December 1 and the Communications Toolbox seminar is now December 8. For the website planning and social media seminars, please see our workshop and seminar page. Learn more about what communications planning in my recent post on that topic.
I also recognized that with the economic uncertainty that budgets may be tighter than usual so new pricing has been introduced for each workshop: $35 for early registration and $45 for full fee. Additional discounts for promotional partners may apply too.
Ignite Waterloo
I also thought I should let you know that I’ll be one of the speakers at Ignite Waterloo on Thursday evening. My talk is called “Make Your VOICE Heard.”
Ignite as it exists here is an eclectic mix of talks. Each is a maximum of 5 minutes. Presenters use slides but they automatically change every 15 seconds. People attending love the format and the rush of interesting information. It is also one of the largest tweetups around.
I strongly encourage you to attend. Unfortunately, this Ignite like its predecessors sold out shortly after tickets went on sale.
But I can help! I have a ticket that as a speaker I don’t need.
Win a ticket to Ignite!
I will give my ticket to a random person who comments on this blog post. What I would like to know is what communications topics you would like me to blog about or offer seminars/workshops on? And why?
I’ll draw the lucky winner Thursday at noon.
A topic for a workshop that I’d like to see (and attend) would be how to get board members of a non-profit to pay attention to - and direct resources for - social media. I would welcome a train the trainer approach for this topic, so that I could take what I learn from you and deliver it to boards. The kind of workshop I’d like to see would involve workshop participants in front of computers with dedicated twitter accounts for the workshop, with a slide-show projected on a screen that illustrates the twitter discussion being held among the group, as one element of the kind of thing I’d like to learn how to do with boards. Participants could search and follow tweeps of common interest and RT for others. Maybe this is one approach to demonstrate value of social media, if you see what I mean.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Would anyone else be interested in this workshop?
Looks like you’re the lucky winner of my Ignite Waterloo ticket! I’ll let the organizers know.
I’ll consider having the workshop that you have suggested. As you mentioned, it would be best if others were interested too so that you learn together and from each other.
I’ll take a moment to suggest three things to help you out:
Do what you can with existing resources. You may be able to reallocate some or it may just be a matter of making it a priority for someone in place of something that no longer offers value.
Develop an online strategy or at least a social media strategy to show what you will do, how it supports your communications efforts and achieve your objectives.
Having a social media policy in place can also help alleviate concerns board members have especially those not involved in social media.
If anyone else is interested in this kind of a workshop, please let us know.
