#WRawesome Online: Capacity Waterloo Region

I feature an interesting website, blog, Twitter feed, Facebook page or other online destination related to Waterloo Region on CKWR with Randolph J. Johnston called #WRawesome Online, Mondays at about 12:30. Here is the Midday with RJ’s Facebook page.

I hope by doing so that I’ll help people find places online that help them to connect to their community-online and in the real world. By doing so, I hope to help people find online places that they might not find otherwise and make our community a better place to live.

For folks looking for communications advice, you can get tips from each selection featured. I’ll highlight at least one example in my weekly post.

#WRawesome Online: Capacity Waterloo Region

Capacity Waterloo Region has a great new website.

If you live or work in Waterloo Region and you are involved with charities or nonprofits hopefully you already know about Capacity Waterloo Region. If not, get familiar with it quickly!

Essentially, Capacity Waterloo Region is an organization established to help local social profits to be more effective in delivering their mission. The idea is that they will be better able to achieve their visions by increasing their capacity to purse social good. It does so by helping to provide resources and opportunities to learn and grow. In part, this is achieved by bringing organizations together instead of trying to enhance their work in isolation.

The Capacity Waterloo Region website brings this mandate to life online. It is a great go to resource that will only get better over time. It has content worth exploring and is a living website with many interactive features including connections to the organization’s social media.

Features an online community

What sets this website apart from many others is that it includes its very own online community. This feature helps people involved with local charities to easily connect, have conversations and share their knowledge. Its a social media tool for a specific and defined audience. If it takes off, by itself it could make a tremendous impact on the quality of life of people living in Waterloo Region.

The website and the online community are built by Waterloo Region’s IGLOO that specializes in social intranets and extranets.

If you live outside Waterloo Region, take a look. You may still get value out of it. You may even want to start something similar in your area.

If you are in Waterloo Region, be sure you connect with me in the online community!
