Talking scheduling tweets with @unmarketing

  1. I’ve always been a disciple of Scott Stratten, better known as Unmarketing on Twitter, when it comes to my personal approach to social media-especially Twitter. Until recently that included never scheduling tweets. But having given it some more thought I believe I found some reasons why scheduling tweets can be acceptable-especially if the vast majority of your tweets are typed just before you hit send.
So I wondered what Unmarketing thought of my approach. I hadn’t heard him recently on the topic and so I thought there may be a chance that he his position had similarly changed. What follows is a Twitter conversation that we had on the topic.
I hope Scott is fine with me sharing our conversation more widely. I would think so. He’s proclaimed himself the King of Twitter and I aspire to being the Unmarketing of Storify! ; )

@unmarketing I’m wondering what you think about my post on scheduling tweets https://bit.ly/KbfM57

No exceptions? RT @unmarketing: @Communic8nHowe don’t agree. Be here, be social. Unless Twitter is used to just broadcast. It isn’t…

@Communic8nHowe don’t agree. Be here, be social. Unless Twitter is used to just broadcast. It isn’t about views.

@unmarketing Did you read my post where I ninety % agree with you but allow understandable exceptions to scheduling tweets?
  6. Communic8nHowe
@unmarketing Thanks for confirming and for stopping by. I had hoped your position on scheduling tweets had evolved a bit.
  7. unmarketing
@Communic8nHowe just gettin tired of the debate about it. People can do whatever they want. Automate a tweet every 4 mins.
  8. Communic8nHowe
@unmarketing That’s why I’m trying to find a middle ground. I’d never recommend a “set it and forget it” approach to Twitter
  9. unmarketing
@Communic8nHowe instead of 3 auto-tweets on a Sunday, why not 30. You’ll get even more clicks.
  10. Communic8nHowe
@unmarketing I’m sure that’s true but I’m more interested in quality and being genuine while still considering my audience
  11. I’m just glad that I didn’t schedule that first tweet or we never would have had a live conversation about it!

What do you think? Do you have anything to add?
