I recently share 10 examples of great nonprofit LinkedIn pages. I suggested they could inspire your organization to make better use of its page.
Now I’ll take the next step and look at what makes a great nonprofit LinkedIn page. I’ll caution you that not all of the earlier examples may meet all of these criteria but overall I still see each as being a good example.
How to make great use of your nonprofit LinkedIn page
Have a front page banner
The best front page banners are those that show the organization at work or at least show people. You can add one by going to “Edit” then “Edit page” and scroll down to the “Image” box.
Post updates regularly
If you want an organizational presence on LinkedIn, it’s important to post regularly, That encourages people to follow your page and makes it more likely they will see your posts. I’d suggest you want to post at least one update a week. But you really should be posting to LinkedIn every time you have content that is suitable for its professional audiences.
Having a front page banner and recent updates quickly distinguishes a nonprofit LinkedIn page as a vibrant place compared to those pages with a prominent “About” section.
having a Careers section
For organization’s recruiting staff through social media LinkedIn is the most popular choice.
Nearly every survey on source of hire or use of social media by recruiters shows LinkedIn to be a key part of the mix; often it leads all the listed social media sites.

Nonprofits actively using LinkedIn to find new staff have a tab for that purpose on their company page. There’s a cost to post jobs but it’s worth trying especially if you hire five or more people each year or it’s an important or tough position to fill.
Having Products/Services section
Having a Product and/or Services section is another mark of a great LinkedIn page because it indicates you are using your home on the site to showcase what it does. Using the opportunity presented by this section is what make it essentially a mini-website within the LinkedIn environment.
If you have multiple services, programs or products, this section should have more than one listed. It’s easy enough to do. Just go to “Edit” then select “Add product or service” and follow the step by step guide.
What I especially love about these sections is how customized they can be to feature a specific service, program or product. Not only can you include a photo but you can include a link right directly to the best page of your website and embed a relevant Youtube video.
Multiple banners on service/product page
You can have multiple banners on the top of your list of services or products. They are a great way to feature any service or product such as one that is new or is key to what you do. Use them.
Another example of a great nonprofit LinkedIn page
Another example of a great nonprofit LinkedIn page that wasn’t included in my last post on this topic belongs to my client Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region. Click on the image below and you’ll see how they have been effectively making use of this opportunity.
