On June 1, I’ll be speaking at the annual Social Capital Conference in Ottawa. In the 90s, I lived in Ottawa for three years and I thought that I might stay there so I love having the chance to go back.
Here’s the description for my session that follows keynote speaker Gini Dietrich at 9:30 a.m.
Integrate video into your social media content strategy
Integrating your communications efforts into a cohesive strategy helps your organization to make the greatest possible impact. In November, Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region reached out to young women through an awareness campaign featuring video, social media, its website, print materials and a showcase event. This session will cover how each of the pieces worked together within the framework of a strategic campaign so that you can use a similar framework to develop your own campaign strategy.
My conference blog post
I wrote a blog post for the conference that looks at whether you want your video to go viral. Here’s a taste of it.
Forget about viral videos! Reach your key audience.
How hard can it be to make a viral video?
A kid practicing his light sabre moves has one. A blender manufacturer has many. A set of twin babies has one. And just about everybody’s cat stars in one.
Everyone wants the next viral video. We conveniently gloss over the fact that viral is not a type of video but rather what happens when people watch a video that they feel compelled to share. So you should give up on thinking you can create a viral video.
Other familiar names and faces
The conference features several others who are likely familiar to readers of this blog.
Two Social Media Breakfast: Waterloo Region speakers from the fall, Danny Brown and Martin Waxman, are both presenting.
There’s also Waterloo Region’s own Dee Brun who is the one and only @cocktaildeeva and mediator Jason Dykstra are also speaking.
See you there!
If you live in Ottawa or are looking for a great excuse to visit it in June, I’m hoping to see you at the Social Capital Conference.
Be sure to say “Hi!”
